When we arrived the place was buzzing with many enjoying their high tea, some finishing and some like us just starting.
Flowers galore with your high tea !

I have visited Melville Rose garden cafe previously and enjoyed breakfast a few years ago. So returning to Masonmill Gardens for High Tea has been a pleasant surprise. The name change compliments the very well planned outstanding renovations. As it turned out, we had picked a lovely afternoon. With the weather changing and threatening to rain, the colours of the roses and surrounds were soft and most relaxing.
High Tea is very affordable at Masonmill with an abundance of food including; freshly made sandwiches, little quiches, scones, jam, strawberries, cream and a beautiful array of cakes. The lovely staff went to extra effort with additional dietary requirements.
Three hours just disappeared and in return we have a lovely memory of great company in relaxing, beautiful surroundings and a feeling of i'm not cooking dinner tonight. Go try High Tea at Masonmill and enjoy. We visited on a week day.
Better than the reviews, much better!

A few of the high tea inspectors were invited to a pre-wedding party at Rochelle Adonis last Sunday. I immediately did some research and found some not too flattering comments, ranging from noisy, lack of service and food inadequacies.

We were shown to our tables promptly at 10am, our party required two tables with ten per table. The waiter was very efficient attending to teas, coffees, and champagne with or without orange juice. The tea selection is excellent and my genmaicha green was one of the better I have tried.

I do like the way the high tea was served, firstly the delicious finger sandwich, fresh and tasty, a perfect starter with my green tea. Then a beautifully presented savoury plate with pork rillet with cornichon, buche d'affonois with home made lavoche and apple, chickpea finger with sri racha sauce and lamb croquette with salsa. (my apologies if any of that is misspelt - and I found it a little difficult to hear the waiter and remember all the dishes).

Strawberry and plum sorbet followed and then a plate of sweets, vanilla macaroon, choux bun with raspberry chiboust cream, chocolate ganache tart with cherry and a passionfruit chocolate cup. And to keep the waiter on his toes another round of teas, coffees or champagne.

The kitchen staff had no problem with my request for "no sugar" and replaced the sweet plate with another savoury plate. With regards to the noisy comments, well I agree, our two tables of women created a lot of noise, but that is not unique to Rochelle Adonis, anywhere you eat out and has a gathering of excited women enjoying themselves - you will have a little noise.

I did not find a lack of service, far from it. Having done a lot of high tea reviews, (some not worth the time or effort) I found the staff and level of service to be excellent.

Most importantly the food and value. There was plenty for everyone and all fresh, tasty and well presented. I noticed ladies from other tables taking leftovers packed up for them as they left.

We walked away totally satisfied and I am most happy to recommend High Tea at Rochelle Adonis.
Our high tea at Bistro Guillaume was a most generous Christmas gift from our newest inspector, "Ira" who at one year old proved to have the winning combination of the perfect hostess and an excellent venue choice.
On arriving last Saturday we were shown to our table in a lovely quiet area and offered the tea menu (quite extensive and impressive) and asked if there were any dietary requirements. All which were executed perfectly. We had requested mainly savoury and no seafood for one. The room is very glamourous with a delightful French flair - even our high chair matched the decor.

An institution in Victoria BC, "The Empress" one of the many impressive Fairmont hotels is well known for their high tea.

At the higher price end of the high tea scale the menu is sumptuous and a first for me the fresh strawberries and cream as a starter.

Then the traditional three tiered stand with sandwiches, scones, jam, cream and excellent cake selection. There is a small selection of teas, unfortunately, this did not include a green tea and found when paying the bill an extra $30 had been added for the privilege for the two of us. ugh.

The service was attentive and expedient despite being very well patronised. The waiter looked smart and extremely knowledgeable when questioned on various aspects of the hotel. I would still like to see a white linen table cloth to finish off the lovely setting.

Wonderful scenery included with afternoon tea!

For a high tea lover, the afternoon teas offered on the Amsterdam Alaskan cruise were one of the highlights of the cruising day (along with happy hour)!

A couple of stand outs were the Indonesian Crew High Tea and the Royal Dutch High Tea.
The lovely Indonesian crew happily serve teas and coffees sourced from Indonesia along with delicious and colourful treats. My choice was the Indonesian Jasmine fine green tea. The traditional scones, jam and cream were also offered and I found all most tasty.
The Royal Dutch High Tea presented as a smorgasbord was quite the indulgence. Many guests partook in this lavish afternoon tea. There were literally trays upon trays of beautifully presented afternoon tea delights.
"Mystical High Tea in Bali"

As many travellers love Bali, three of our High Tea Bali loving inspectors decided to try Biku high tea with a tarot reading.
They had a wonderful time in the traditional Balinese setting with English touches. Also impressive, the Royal Albert tea set and a well stocked quaint gift shop. The variety of cakes and teas offered were all served by the attentive, friendly staff including the biggest ever pavlova reported.

The tarot reading enjoyed by two of the inspectors were "quite near the truth". A must book ahead for tarot readings is required if your planning this extra with your high tea.

The waiter informed us there was a buffet in the next room. Our table was along way from the buffet, right next to the coffee station, so not an ideal location and disappointing considering the booking was made before christmas. I find buffet for afternoon tea interrupts the flow of conversation and prefer to have table service. The buffet offerings looked impressive and I'm sure very well patronised. I would suggest if planning a visit to request a table closer to the buffet and don't plan on eating dinner, if this is your pleasure.

The expectation of High Tea at the Raffles was a little soured when after stepping out of the taxi at the main entrance, to be directed around the side to the Tiffin room as only guests can enter through the main doors (even though the Tiffin room is directly left through the main door)- I found this a little precious.

Today you will enjoy lovely teas, scones, sandwiches and cakes served on Royal Danish crockery all in lovely surroundings. I particularly liked a painting of the premises in earlier times.

The tea variety is extensive with tea from Africa, India,Indonesia, China, Sri Lanka, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Tanzania and Vietnam. So if you cannot find the one then your in the wrong place. One of the friendly staff told me that coffee is never served at Perch's as they do not want the coffee aroma to permeate the building.
The menu caters to all: Ferdinands Delight - Scones with jam, lemon curd and clotted cream and tea.
High Tea - Cake with tea. Perch's Sandwich Menu - A variety of different finger sandwiches served with tea (our choice). Perch's Lunch Menu - Seafood salad served with rye bread and green tea. Lastly, Perch's Cheese Menu - A variety of different cheeses served with rye bread and tea.

Enjoying a good cuppa is a great way to relax and soak up the atmosphere of any new place your visiting. So if Copenhagen is on your agenda, please visit Perch's Tea Room and have a wonderful time just like we did.
A little history with a very fine high tea.

I know it has been sometime for our reviews on our favourite pastime (you know what that is) but one's life has been a little busy and a few we have tried just didn't make the grade. However, this one certainly did make the cut. Magiric Emporium high tea is a most lovely experience from the time you enter the lovely old stone cottage until the time you leave.

The savoury high tea attracted my attention and a great option for those watching their sugar intake. Our party ordered two savoury and one traditional along with tea and coffee. Service is very prompt and attentive, refreshing the tea pot or replacing plates not a problem.

The savoury scones, topped with sour cream and homemade tomato relish, are the best I have ever tasted. Yum. Both savoury and sweet selections are equally impressive as the choice of teas on offer.
Magiric Emporium has such a lovely variety of foods, catering for elegant luncheons, private functions and the hardy high tea lovers. I would recommend if you're Busselton way, do yourself a favour and enjoy this excellent experience. Very well done.

Situated in the historic old post office at 4 Queen Street, Busselton you will find a most sumptuous high tea. I recommend preparing well - giving 24hrs notice and don't bother about lunch.
The three tiers were laden with freshly prepared treats including cucumber, egg, leg ham sandwiches, mini quiches, scones, jam and cream, custard tarts, macaroons, mini petit cakes, strawberries, fruit cake, lemon cake, apple crumble, brownies and the list goes on. All done so very well, if not a little overwhelming for three.
Busselton is a wonderful place to visit and high tea at The Old Post Office should be a priority for all tea lovers, Well done.
The patrons of the Tea Salon at Starhill Gallery seem to be the business set - either freelancers or the bosses who can leave the office for a few hours and have no one miss them. Lap tops, confidential tones and sombre expressions the side order with their tea and macaroons. But don't let that put you off.
Fantastical store design, with gravity defying displays of giant tea canisters in yellow, orange, pink and purple, give the Tea Salon a nice injection of mad-hatter whimsy. The tea selection, tea pots and tea cups are all very good.
On this occasion, we only had macaroons with our tea, but there is a high tea set available. Therein lies the trouble with short trips - so little time for all the meals you'd like to fit in. The Starhill Gallery is opposite the Pavillion Shopping Centre, look for Sephora and you can't miss it.mistressofteapartieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09930241782050855786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4778255118631266205.post-42667749126509569012012-06-13T22:56:00.002-07:002012-06-13T22:56:54.041-07:00Mandarin Oriental, Kuala LumpurAn encore at the Mandarin.

After the rave reviews of one of the inspectors, a group visit to the Mandarin Oriental was recently enjoyed by five(!) high tea inspectors in celebration of a milestone birthday. The big "six-oh" birthday indulgence was no secret from the staff at the Mandarin Oriental, who made the occasion especially memorable via an impromptu and soulful double rendition of "Happy Birthday" complete with violinist and bonus cake.
The collective inspectors found the earlier review accurate. The food and tea selection is impressive and well executed. Thoughtful details, such as the unique tiered presentation stands, and fruity derivations of standard favourites make this a standout high tea destination. It is very handy to the Petronas Shopping Centre - use the Emporio Armani exit and skip on over!mistressofteapartieshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09930241782050855786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4778255118631266205.post-66347620334152552712012-03-17T18:07:00.004-07:002012-03-17T20:07:10.113-07:00Christchurch to Queenstown, New Zealand

Where, oh where, do you find high tea?

New Zealand is known for its mountains, lakes, sheep, rugby and some times cricket but for the last 10 days I could not find a place that offered high tea, ugh! But really, we all have bad days and therefore this can happen pretty well anywhere you go. My husband's choice was the Chun Lee and mine was the Jasmine. We both enjoyed our selections, however, I tried the Chun Lee and was happy I went with the Jasmine. The three tiered cake stand came out with the second tier plate empty- this had me a little puzzled. On the bottom plate was afternoon tea sandwiches, smoked salmon, egg mayonnaise, cheddar on sundried tomato bread, ham, chicken and mayonnaise and cucumber. All were delightful, my favourite was the chicken and mayonnaise. Waiters with large platters of extra sandwiches went from table to table offering more sandwiches.

After the sandwiches the waiter removed the empty second plate and to my delight returned with warm freshly baked scones with home made strawberry jam and clotted cream. Oh my, they were very special indeed and I was quite determined to have my two scones whilst realising that there was still another tier to go. Around again went the waiters with extra warm scones for anyone who could possibly have room for more.

Tea pots were constantly refreshed and by this stage the high tea inspector was feeling like she was in paradise. My favourite being the fruit and custard basket, yum. Unable to finish our cake selection the waiter was more than happy to send a fresh plate to our room- now that is service!

To avoid disappointment you will need to book for your choice of either Traditional, Champagne or Celebration afternoon tea.
